I had already fallen in love with Ses Sucreres, a small pocket hotel nestled in the town of Ferreries, hidden in the middle of Menorca.
Now the delicious and energetic owners come to satisfy my desires and open a new spot in the heart of Mahon, my favorite town in Menorca: colorful, authentic, not having yet (too much) given in to the tornado bling that has been going down since a few years on the island. There are still small restaurants that do not look like much or typically Menorcan tapas bars that allow you to measure the sweetness and substance of this island that bears the scars of history.
Hevresac means backpack. A universal name in Europe. For a universal hotel, a reflection of European cosmopolism. And which therefore poses reception and inclusion as a basic principle.
The imposing building belonged to Joan Roca, a Minorcan sailor and merchant who lived there for 50 years. In this house was nestled a treasure: the scrupulous notation of the ballet of the boats which entered and left the port of Mahon during all this period. This precious register allows us to go back in time and to understand the power of this port and the strategic side of this island, conquered in turn and then taken over by the English and the French and an essential part of trade, due to its unique position in the Mediterranean, and gateway between North Africa and London or Paris.
Hevresac is 8 rooms, in a modern, vintage and heterogeneous spirit. The objects were unearthed in the 4 corners of Europe, from Antwerp to Brussels via London or Paris.
A large living room on the ground floor. An old bar revisited on the mezzanine floor in which breakfast is served next to piles of Wallpaper whose pages are just waiting to be turned.
In short, a place that oscillates between a cabinet of curiosities and a travel house.
